The Threshold Effect: Why More Isn't Better

Here's the single most important fact about testosterone and libido, and the one the supplement industry works hardest to hide: the relationship is not a straight line. It's a threshold.

Below a certain level, testosterone and desire track together—raise a genuinely deficient man's testosterone into the normal range and his libido often improves. But above that threshold, adding more testosterone does essentially nothing for desire. Two men of the same age can sit hundreds of points apart and both be healthy. So the practical question is never "is my number lower than a 25-year-old's?"—of course it is.
